Reminders for 10th Graders

For sample questions for the PLAN test, click here

1) You will be taking the PLAN (Pre-ACT) and PSAT tests during your sophomore year. The PSAT will be given in October and the PLAN will be given in your English class. It is very important to do well on these tests, as they are an indicator of future success on the SAT and/or ACT.

2) You will take the HSAP Exit Exam in the spring of your sophomore year. You must pass all three parts (reading, writing, and math) as well as earn your 24 units to graduate from high school. If you do not pass one, two, or three parts of it, you will have another chance in the spring of 2006, and you will be enrolled in a remedial course, or courses, during school to get you caught up. You will then be afforded TWO chances your senior year, once in the fall, and another in the spring. If you do not pass it by then, you WILL NOT earn a diploma.

3) Begin to explore colleges and financial aid on-line. You can have a great start by clicking on our SCOIS link, Financial Aid Page, our Scholarships Page, College Page, or our College Planning page.

4) If you plan on attending RDA, please plan early so we can ensure that you can get all of your courses in that you'll need for graduation, AND to meet the College Prep Requirements set forth by the S.C. colleges and universities. (For more info on these, ask your counselor, or click for the link)

5) Colleges are interested in several things when they consider you for admission:

PLEASE WORK HARD TO MAINTAIN A HIGH GPA, ALWAYS ATTEND SCHOOL UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY, AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE, THESE ARE THE KEYS TO BEING SUCCESSFUL AT DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL.
