Seniors should begin to apply to college in August/September of their Senior year.  All seniors should meet with their guidance counselor during this time to ensure that they have all the necessary information to have a successful year.  Students interested in CLEMSON should apply as early as possible.  We have applications from many colleges and universities in the guidance office.  If we do not have an application, you should visit the college's website, call the admissions office at that particular college and have them mail one to your home, or visit the college in person.

Applications may be obtained in several ways:

1) Visit the Dorman Guidance Office and look in the file cabinet marked "college applications". There are numerous applications from colleges all over the Southeast included, as well as other colleges and universities throughout the country.

2) Visit the college and obtain one from the admissions office

3) Visit the website of a particular college and request that one be sent to you

4) Call or write a college to request any admissions materials that you may need.

5)  Visit a college's website and fill out an online application

ATTENTION STUDENTS! PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

STEP 1-Carefully complete the entire application. Remember that the college will be making important decisions about you with the information provided on the application. It is important to complete the application neatly in black ink, and if possible, a typed application would be preferable. Remember that you are selling yourself so you want to include information that will help you in the admissions process. If an essay is required, you may want to have your English teacher to proof read the rough draft. It is also important to be honest and complete each part of the application. Be sure that the application is signed.

STEP 2-Attach a check or money order for the specified amount made payable to the college.  Also, please include an addressed envelope to the college with appropriate postage. (If you are doing an online application where you have paid online, this step is not necessary)

STEP 3-Turn in the completed application and check/money order to your counselor. BE SURE TO ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME FOR DEADLINES TO BE MET. Allow approximately 2 weeks for processing, mailing, etc. If letters of recommendation are needed, be sure to ask teachers, counselors, and/or principals at least TWO WEEKS in advance. It is to your advantage to give sufficient time for an outstanding recommendation letter to be written about you.

STEP 4-Fill out a Transcript Request Form and turn it in to your counselor.

STEP 5-The counselor will complete the school portion of the application and turn in the completed application to the records secretary. The records secretary will attach an official transcript, pertinent test scores, and senior class schedule to the application and will mail the application package to the college. She will document the date the application is mailed.

STEP 6-Let your counselor know when you hear from the college. Please bring a copy of your acceptance letter so your counselor can make a copy for his/her records. Ask for assistance if you have any questions. GOOD LUCK!!!
