Class Drops
Only seniors who are enrolled in four classes may drop one course without penalty during the first 5 days in a 90-day semester course, or the first three days in a 45-day, nine weeks course. Seniors who withdraw from a class after the designated day of the semester will receive a "WF" meaning withdrew failing on their transcript.
Summer School
All summer work consists of 120 clock hours for one unit of credit(60 hours for 1/2 unit of credit). Limited course offerings are available in summer school. English 9, 10, and 11 may not be taken for the first time in summer school. Students who need only English 12 for graduation may take it in summer school, if available. A Dorman student must obtain written authorization from the principal to receive credit for summer school taken at another school; this authorization must be acquired prior to the student's enrollment in the summer program.
Retaking the Same Course
Students may retake the same course under the following conditions:
All students are required by state regulations to take at least 3 credit-bearing courses during any semester. At Dorman High School, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are required to take 4 courses each semester. Seniors are required to take 3 courses each semester or two Dorman High School courses and at least one college credit-bearing course each semester. Freshmen are required to take seven courses that will last all year.
Students are encouraged to choose courses carefully during the registration period. Classes are scheduled based upon students' requests, and the students are randomly assigned to their selected subjects by the computer. Due to schedule conflicts and changes in course offerings, the staff cannot guarantee that students will be scheduled for all of the courses they requested. It is important that students list alternates on the registration card. These alternates may likely be used when there are scheduling conflicts.
Students may not select specific teachers or specific times for courses on their schedule. A student is not required to take a course under a teacher with whom he/she has failed during prior semesters. Students are not allowed to take a course under a relative if another teacher is teaching the course.
Class Rank Computation
Grade Point Average (GPA) will be computed for all students at the end of each academic semester. GPA and class rank will be calculated using the Uniform Grading Scale as mandated by the S.C. Board of Education.
Dorman High School reserves the right to limit class load to insure optimal instruction.
